Basically all settings (such as the size of the different panes in the jukebox window) are saved when you select File->Save SettingsFirst, let's describe the different parts of the main window
![]()
This views the queue of songs to be played. You can drag songs, collections and artists here from the object view to play them. You can select which queue server to connect to in the preferences window (File->Preferences...).
There are optinally some buttons below the queue window. You can select which buttons you want here in the preferences window. You can either press the button to apply it's action to the currently selected object, or drag an object to it to apply the action to that object.
The possible buttons are the same as all possible menu selections.
This shows a lot of information about the current object. Some of the information, the object name, multimedia objects (images and texts) and the description (inlined text) can be edited by selecting 'Edit....' from the context menu (press the right mouse button over any object) or the 'Object' part of the main menu (at the top of the window).
The latter edits the currently selected object.
- Artist
- Collection
- Song
- Quite obvious. :-)
- Style
- This can be used to classify songs, artists and collections.
The main purpose is making it easy to find music with the same 'style'. A more advanced system might be useful, though.
- Lyrics
- Lyrics text (unicode) and a list of timed lyric events. Not currently used.
- Favourites
- A list of objects, used by the playlist and favourites.
- MultiMedia
- An image or a text that is related to some other database object.
- User
- Group
- The creator of the object
This pane consists of several different views of the database.
The left part of this list contains a list of all the artists.Selecting an artist will show all collections on which this artist performs, and the songs on those collections that has this artist as a performer or composer in the right part of the view.
This view is almost identical to the artist view, but the list contains all collections, and there is nno filtering done (that is, when you select a collection you see all songs on that collection, not only those that are performed by a specific artist)
Again, this is rather similar to the Artist and Collection widgets, but instead of showing artists or collections this one shows style objects.A Style object is a container that can contain one or more artists, collections and songs (and other style objects and favourite lists etc, but there is no editor that allows that yet)
When an artist is encountered in the style object, filtering is done in a way similar to the way filtering is done in the artist widget, only songs performed by that artist on the collections that artist performs on is shown.
You might want to use playlists instead of the favourite list, this is mostly here for compatibility. This is your own personal favourites. You can drag objects to here to add them to the list, and right-click on the objects in the list and select 'Remove' if you want to remove them.
You can add a collection, or an artist or style, or a playlist or the favourites of another user, and then remove some of the songs in the but if new songs or collections are added to the added object they will show up in your favourite list.
The playlists are favourites with a name, basically.
You can also activate a playlist to get the jukebox client to automatically play songs from the list, the number of points and the number of songs are configurable at the bottom of the list of playlists.
- Score
- This is the number of scores used to play each song that is played from your list
- Num
- This is the number of songs that the client tries to keep on the queue at any time
- Friendly
- Sometimes someone else plays a song that is in one of your activated playlists. If so, this is the number of points your client will add to that song.
The theory is that songs that more people want to hear is more likely to be played.
To create a new playlist, right-click in the list of playlists window and select 'New Playlist'
Similarly, to activate or deactivate or delete a playlist, right click on the playlist.
To add songs to the playlist, drag them to it.
It might be a good idea to 'float' the playlist first, it's easier to add songs that way, since you can view both the playlist and the list of artists at the same time.
Even if you activate a playlist, you still have to play one song before other songs are played from it.
